As an administrator, you can easily change the first and last name of students, parents, and teachers in your school as well as in the classes you own via your Remind dashboard online at any time.

Tip
If someone you've added to your school or class is appearing on your People list with the incorrect name, it might mean that the person whose name is showing used to own that cell phone number, and that they never removed themselves from Remind when they changed their cell phone number.
As a result, before you change someone's name, we recommend that you:
- Copy, edit, and send the following message to the person asking them to confirm their name:
Hi there! This is (insert your name) at (insert organization), and we're using Remind to send important updates. I recently added you to our Remind list, and I noticed that the name associated with your Remind account is different than what I have on my roster. Can you please provide me your name so I can confirm if I have the correct person associated with this phone number?
- Once you know who the person is, instead of changing their name, we recommend that you ask them to use this resource to update the phone number associated with their Remind account. You can send them the following message:
Great, thanks for confirming you are (insert name)! It appears someone else used to own your current phone number. At your earliest convenience, can you please log in to your Remind account and update your phone number, and let me know once you have done so? Here's instructions on how to do it. Thank you!
- After the participant have confirmed they've updated their account, follow the instructions below to update their name.
Notes
- To change the name of a person in a class you own, your class must be linked to a school.
- If you created rostered accounts for your parents, students, and parents via Remind 1.0, 2.0, OneRoster, ClassLink API, or Clever sync, SIS data changes will update the SIS name on an individual's account, but it will not alter their display name nor their original account name regardless of how their account was created. You can share this resource with the individual if they need to change their display or account name.
- After you've updated a school or class participant's profile name, they will receive an email notification of the change.
- Participants have the ability to update their name at anytime. Administrators and approved teachers can search for a student via the People list using the student's display or rostered name.

Instead of editing names, adding private notes is also a great way to keep track of who's who. Please refer to this resource on how to add a private note either on web or your Remind app!
To edit a school participant's name:
Web
- Log in to your Remind account on the web.
- Click on your school's name.
- Select the People tab. A list of the Students in your school will automatically appear.
- To see a list of names for Parents, Teachers, or individuals with No role, click on the vertical dropdown icon.
- Or, you can find a specific person by typing their name in the search box.
- Click the name of the individual whose profile name you want to change.
- Select the three vertical dots on their profile .
- Choose Edit Name.
- Change the individual's first and/or last name.
- Click Save.

iOS
- Open the Remind app.
- Tap on your school's name.
- Tap the name of the person whose name you want to change under Conversations.
- Tap the information icon on the top right.
- Tap the three vertical dots that are to the right of the individual's name.
- Choose View profile , and tap the their name again.
- Change the individual's first and/or last name.
- The update will automatically show when you tap Done on your keyboard, or click anywhere on the app.

Android
- Open the Remind app.
- Tap on your school's name.
- Tap the name of the person whose name you want to change under Recent.
- Tap the information icon on the top right.
- Tap the individual's name under Participants, and then tap their name again at the top.
- Change the individual's first and/or last name.
- Click the right blue arrow on your keyboard to save your changes.
To edit a class participant's name:
Web
- Log in to your Remind account on the web.
- Under Classes owned, select the class of the person whose name you want to change.
- Click the People tab. A list of Everyone in the class will automatically appear.
- To see a list of names specifically for Students, Parents, Teachers, or individuals with No role, click on the vertical dropdown icon.
- Or, you can find a specific person by typing their name in the search box.

Click the name of the person whose profile name you want to change.

Select the three vertical dots on their profile .
- Choose Edit Name.
- Change the individual's first and/or last name.
- Click Save.
