How do I change my SIS sync method?

Only for Remind Hub administrators that are changing from one SIS Sync method to another

It's a good practice to do an organizational change as close to, if not during, the semester break so that it is the least disruptive for your community.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Before you begin
  • Choose new sync method
  • Perform a clean up sync
  • Reset Remind Sync
  • Set up new SIS sync

Before you begin

  1. We recommend messaging your community before we begin the data clean-up to let them know we're going to be removing people from the school, but will re-add them for the upcoming school year if they still have students enrolled.

We are excited to share that {{organization.name}} is rolling out Remind district-wide!

If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages on any device—even a simple text from your phone!

As part of this rollout, we will be removing everyone from Remind temporarily and re-adding you for the upcoming school year if you still have students enrolled with us. During this process, you may receive some automated messages from Remind, which are normal and expected as we prepare for the new school year.

We appreciate your patience and are excited to make connecting with our families more engaging!

  2. Only district administrators can complete the rostering process for their organization. If you need to give another person on your team district admin access, click here to see directions on how to add administrators. Please contact our Support team if you don't have access to your district's dashboard.
  3. Decide if you want SIS rostering enforcement turned on for your district SIS rostering enforcement allows you to remove the option for SIS-linked students, parents, and teachers to leave your organization on Remind.

Choose new SIS sync method

There are several options for setting up accounts and/or classes on Remind for your organization:

  • SIS Auto-Sync - Set up a direct connection between your SIS and Remind if available for your SIS. This option is only available for Aeries at the moment.
  • Classlink - Transfer data from your SIS to Remind via ClassLink. Information on the process is found here.
  • Clever - Transfer data from your SIS to Remind via Clever. Information on the process is found here.
  • CSV sync via SFTP - CSV files are exported from your SIS or data management system and sent to Remind via SFTP. Information on the process is found here. These are the formats that we support.
    • Remind CSV 2.0 Format
    • OneRoster Format
    • Remind CSV 1.0 Format

Perform a clean up sync

  • Typically, this involves one last data transfer using your current method to remove people and irrelevant classes.
  • Instruct teachers to archive their non-SIS-linked classes. This will assist in removing classes that were not created via rostering and put us towards a cleaner slate to work with.

Reset sync at district level

  • This is a step taken by the Remind Implementation team.
  • You must give your go-ahead for us to perform this step.

Set up new SIS sync

  • You will need to configure your Remind SIS Sync tab and select the data transfer option using the set up guide for your chosen sync method.
    • SIS Auto-Sync - Set up a direct connection between your SIS and Remind if available for your SIS. This option is only available for Aeries at the moment.
    • Classlink API -
      1. Add Remind to ClassLink and Set up ClassLink SSO
      2. Setting up ClassLink within Remind
    • Clever API
    • CSV sync via SFTP - You must select one of the following file formats.
      1. Remind CSV 2.0 Format
      2. OneRoster Format
      3. Remind CSV 1.0 Format
