Send an individual, group, class, or role-based message

You can send three different types of messages to your community members on Remind. Participants will receive your announcement as a text, email, or push notification depending on how they receive messages. This article covers how to send a message via:

Web

App

Web

Individual message

An individual message is a conversation between you and one other participant. You and the participant are the only people who can see the message. To send an individual message on web:

  1. Click on New message located on the left side of the dashboard.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Type the name of the person you want to reach in the search box at the top, or scroll down until you get to the People section and select the box next to their name.
  4. Click Continue
  5. Type your message.
  6. Click Send.

Group message

You can select up to 9 other participants to start a group conversation. When you send a group message, all participants will see one another as well as each other's responses. This type of message is popular for group or class assignments. To send a group message on web:

  1. Click on New message located on the left side of the dashboard.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down and click on Create New located to the right of Recent Group Conversations
  4. Click on each participant.
  5. Click Continue
  6. Type your message.
  7. Click Send.

To message a group you've already created, you can find the group under Recent Group Conversations/Recent Groups in the message composer or under All Classes. You can also use the search bar in the composer, or in All Classes to find past group conversations.

When you attempt to send a group message to more than 10 people, the message will be sent as an individual message; a group message will not be created. As a result, only the teacher who sent the message will receive each person's response - not the entire group.

Also, as the creator of the group chat, you cannot remove yourself from the conversation. However, the members of your group can leave a group conversation at any time via text, app or web.

Class or role-based message

When you send a class announcement, all the participants in your class will receive the message. You can also filter your announcement by teachers, students, or parents to send a role-based message.

As a class owner, you will be the only one will who see any replies to your announcement. To send a class or a role-based announcement on web:

  1. Click on New message located on the left side of the dashboard.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down until you get to the Classes section.
  4. Select the class you want to receive your message.
  5. Click on Everyone to choose a role-based group (teachers, students, or parents) from the drop-down menu.
    • You can also add individuals to a class announcement, or select additional classes to send the same announcement to multiple classes.
  6. Click Continue
  7. Type your message.
  8. Click Send.
