For all Remind users.

You can send three different types of messages to your community members on Remind - individual, group, or role-based. Participants will receive your announcement as a text, email, or push notification, depending on how they receive messages.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Things to keep in mind
  • Web
    • Individual message
    • Group conversation
    • Rename a group conversation
    • Class or role-based message
  • App
    • iOS app
    • Android app
  • Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
  • Additional Resources

Things to keep in mind

  1. If your class is not linked to an organization with Remind Hub, the character limit for your message is 140. You can add more information to your message by attaching a photo or document to your announcement.
  2. If you want to schedule an announcement, you can't add individual participants to it. Also, you can only schedule role-based messages on the web and not via the iOS or Android app.
  3. Your class must be linked to a school to send role-based messages.
  4. Only class owners and administrators will see the option to send an announcement.

Web

Individual Message

An individual message is a conversation between you and one other participant. You and the participant are the only people who can see the message.

  1. On the left navigation bar, click New message.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Type the name of the person you want to reach in the search box at the top, or scroll down until you get to the People section and select the box next to their name.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Type your message.
  6. Click Send.

Group conversation

You can select up to 9 other participants to include in a group conversation. When you start a group conversation, all of the participants will see one another as well as each other's responses. This type of message is popular for group or class assignments.

  1. On the left navigation bar, click New message.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down and click Create New to the right of Recent Group Conversations.
  4. Click on each participant.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Type your message.
  7. Click Send.

Things to keep in mind

  • Everyone on Remind, except those under age 13, can create and participate in group conversations.
  • All members of a group conversation can change the name of the group.
  • All members of a group conversation can enable and disable replies in the conversation.
  • Only the group conversation owner can remove or add people to the conversation.
  • The conversation owner can't remove themselves or leave the group conversation.
  • To message a group you've already created, you can find the group under Recent Group Conversations/Recent Groups in the message composer or under All Classes. You can also use the search bar in the composer or in All Classes to find past group conversations.

  • When you attempt to start a group conversation with more than ten people, the message will be sent as an individual message; a group message will not be created. As a result, only you, as the person who sent the message, will receive each person's response - not the entire group.

  • As the creator or owner of the group conversation, you can add people to and remove them from it. You cannot remove yourself from the conversation. Group members can leave a group conversation anytime via text, app, or the web. GrouMessage-Owner_vs_Participant.png

Class or role-based message

When you send a class announcement, all the participants in your class will receive the message. You can also filter your announcement by teachers, students, or parents to send a role-based message. Also, you can send your announcement to a select group of participants. You can do so by finding them via the search bar and individually selecting them to receive your announcement. You cannot send a class role-based message to employees at this time.

As a class owner, you'll be the only one who sees any replies to your announcement. To send a class or a role-based announcement on the web:

  1. On the left navigation bar, click New message.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down until you get to the Classes section.
  4. Select the class you want to receive your message.
