For all Remind users.

You can send three different types of messages to your community members on Remind. Participants will receive your announcement as a text, email, or push notification, depending on how they receive messages.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Keep in mind
  • Web
    • Individual
    • Group
    • Class or role-based
  • App
    • iOS
    • Android

Keep in mind

  • If your class is not linked to an organization with Remind Hub, the character limit for your message is 140. You can add more information to your message by attaching a photo or document to your announcement.
  • If you want to schedule an announcement, you cannot add individual participants. Also, you can only schedule role-based messages on the web and not via the iOS or Android app.
  • If you're an administrator or class owner, learn how to send a grade-level message here.

Individual message

An individual message is a conversation between you and one other participant. You and the participant are the only people who can see the message. To send an individual message on the web:

  1. Click New message on the dashboard's left side.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Type the name of the person you want to reach in the search box at the top, or scroll down until you get to the People section and select the box next to their name.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Type your message.
  6. Click Send.

Group conversation

You can select up to 9 other participants to start a group conversation. When you send a group message, all participants will see each other's names and responses. This type of message is popular for group or class assignments. To send a group message on the web:

  1. Click New message on the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down and click Create New to the right of Recent Group Conversations.
  4. Click the name of each participant you want to receive the message.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Type your message.
  7. Click Send.

Here is some other information about group conversations:

  • To message a group you've already created, you can look under Recent Group Conversations/Recent Groups in the message composer or All conversations on the left navigation menu. You can also use the search bar in the composer or in All Conversations to find past group conversations.

When you attempt to send a group message to more than ten people, the message will be sent as an individual message, and a group message will not be created. As a result, only the teacher who sent the message will receive each person's response - not the entire group.

  • Also, as the group chat creator, you cannot remove yourself from the conversation. However, your group members can leave a group conversation anytime via text, app, or the web.
  • You can rename a group conversation! Click on the group in the Message tab, click on the three dots Icon-ThreeDots__1_.png, and Rename. Then, just type in name you would like to see.                     GroupConvo-Rename.png

  1. Click New message on the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Message.
  3. Scroll down to the Classes section.
  4. Select the class you want to receive your message.
