| For Remind Chat class owners |
Every Remind Chat member can receive messages via the Remind app or email. Community members can decide how they receive messages by updating their notification preferences at any time.
To send SMS text messages through Remind Chat, you must be a verified member of a verified K-12 educational institution in the United States. You can learn more about who can send SMS texts on Remind Chat.
Users must have a role in Remind to receive messages. If their role is student, they must have their birthdate listed in Remind. If they don't have a birthdate in Remind, they are treated as under 13.
Students under 13 can't send messages, and people can't send them direct messages. They can receive class-wide, school-wide, and district-wide announcements. Students can log in to their Remind account using a web browser to provide their birthday.
This article contains the following sections:
User roles
Ensure that everyone has the correct role.
- Click on the name of the class you own.
- Click on the People tab.
- Check each person's role.
If they don't have a role or the role isn't correct, share these instructions to have them change their role.
Student birthdates
When students set up their accounts, they are prompted to add their birthdays.
If this step is bypassed, they will be treated as under 13. This means that they can't send messages or receive direct messages. For more information about COPPA laws protecting children, please read this article: "COPPA - Students under 13."
