Find a person to message from a class
If the class owner allows messaging between class participants, you can search for a person and send them a message from within the class. If you have admin access to a school, you can also locate an individual by searching their name, phone number, or email address on the school’s People list.
Web
- Click on the class.
- Go to the People dashboard.
- Search for the person you wish to message, either by the search bar or the list below, and click on their name.
- Click the blue Message button. You’ll be directed to your conversation with that person, where you can compose and send your message.
If the Message button is faded out it means you cannot message that person either because the class owner or school admin does not allow participant messaging, or the person has opted out of messaging.

Reply to a message
Note: Replies to messages are only allowed if the sender has enabled replies. If replies are not enabled for the sender, you’ll see a message indicating replies are off below the latest message in the class. If you’re responding by text or email and replies are disabled, your message simply will not be delivered.
If replies are allowed in your class, there are a few different ways to reply to a message.
If you receive a class-wide or school-wide announcement and you reply to it, your reply will only be seen by the sender of the message.
If you're in a group conversation with multiple individuals from the same organization, everyone will see all replies in the group.
Notice that the empty message composer will indicate your recipients, so you can confirm who you’re messaging before you begin typing.
Web and App
To reply to a message on the web, use the Messages tab from the Class list.
