For administrators with advanced messaging, a premium feature is available with Remind Hub. Please contact your Customer Success Manager or our Support team to learn more.

As you set up an auto message for your organization, or after you try to send an auto message to your community, you may see a notice that your auto message has file errors. File errors can prevent the completion of your setup or your auto message from being sent.

This article provides information on how to fix the following auto-message file errors:

  • auto_message_not_found
  • corrupted_file
  • duplicate_student_numbers
  • empty_student_number_column
  • integrity_check_failure
  • mismatched_creds_for_auto_message

  • missing_custom_message_fields

  • no_student_number_column
  • no_students_match

  • not_a_csv

  • off_hours

  • too_many_attempts

  • too_many_student_numbers

  • unknown_error

auto_message_not_found

The auto message CSV filename is not associated with an existing auto message listed on your auto message dashboard in Remind. Please rename the file to match the filename associated with the auto message listed on the auto message dashboard and transfer it again.

corrupted_file

A corrupted file means the CSV could not be opened. This could be due to one of the following:

  • Line breaks in the fields that do not have double quotes enclosing them, such as stacking text in one cell. Please unstack the text in the cells of the auto message CSV file and transfer the file again.
  • Long numbers that have leading zeros, such as 00002341. Please remove any leading zeros from the student numbers in the auto message CSV file and transfer the file again.
  • An invalid CSV file format such as missing column headers or filenames not ending in .csv.

After you've fixed the auto message CSV file, resave the file as a new file and transfer it again.

duplicate_student_numbers

The file you've transferred has multiple rows with the same student number. Please open the file and remove any duplicate rows. Save and transfer the updated file.

empty_student_number_column

The student_number column in the auto message CSV file is missing student numbers. Please open the file and add your organization's student numbers in the student_number column.

integrity_check_failure

This means that the sender selected in the compose auto message section is not a verified school or district administrator. You can either change the sender to someone who currently has admin access to your district or school or make the current sender an administrator of your district or school.

mismatched_creds_for_auto_message

This error means the SFTP credentials used to upload the auto message CSV file do not match the SFTP credentials of the auto message. For example, a lunch balance auto message will have different SFTP credentials than a daily tardies auto message. Make sure that you're transmitting files to the correct SFTP credentials associated with the auto-message.

missing_custom_message_fields

This error means that the auto message CSV file is missing custom column headers that should match the custom fields in the auto message.

For example, if the auto message is: " {{student_name}} was absent for {{absent_count}} day." The header student_name and absent_count must be in the CSV file and contain data. Open the auto message CSV file and verify that all custom headers associated with the auto message are also in the auto message CSV file and transfer the file again.

no_student_number_column

The student_number column is missing in the auto message CSV file. Please include a column titled student_number and add your organization's student numbers. This is a required field for all files.

no_students_match

The student numbers in the auto message CSV file do not match the student_numbers in your organization in Remind. If you have multiple organizations, ensure you're uploading an auto message CSV file for the correct organization - the student numbers in the file should be for the rostered students on your school’s People list.

not_a_csv

The auto message file transferred is not a CSV file. Please upload the auto message file with the correct CSV format by saving the auto message CSV file as .csv.

off_hours

This file was transferred to Remind between 12 am and 7 am Eastern time. Auto messages are not sent during this time.

too_many_attempts

Files with this error have been transferred to Remind, 5 times or more within the last 5 minutes. Please verify that the SFTP is properly configured, then wait for 1 hour and try again.

too_many_student_numbers

This file contains more than 50,000 student numbers. You can send auto messages to up to 50,000 students at one time. Please ensure that the file is targeting the students at a single school and not the entire district. A large number of student numbers may cause delays in delivery.

unknown_error

This means there is an unknown file error. Please email our Support team for help.
