How does Remind Tutoring work?

You’ll be paired with a Remind coach for recurring sessions based on the information you share about your child. Sessions include a video call through Remind with interactive whiteboarding.

Thirty minutes before your session starts, you'll receive a message with a link to join the video call with your Remind coach. You’ll also receive a link to your interactive whiteboard. After the session, the coach will send you and your child a summary of the session, additional resources, and recommended next steps.

How should I prepare for my first session?

When you're matched with a coach, you will be asked to share any information that will help give your coach a better understanding of your student's needs and allow for a more personalized tutoring experience. You can provide as much information as you like including sharing any of your child's recently identified growth areas. You can attach a file, a screenshot, or even a photo of printed materials.

Some helpful questions to answer include: 

  • What is your long-term goal for joining Remind Tutoring?
  • Is your student currently taking classes/working toward a specific deadline?
  • How does your child feel about math? What grade did they earn in their most recent class?
  • What is your child's learning style?
  • Does your child have any learning differences?

What topics do you cover?

Remind Tutoring covers 2nd to 12th grade math subjects, including: 2nd–6th grade math, Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and Statistics.

What devices do I need?

We recommend using two devices during the session: a computer for the video call and a large touchscreen device (like a Chromebook or tablet) for interactive whiteboarding. Click here to learn more about the pros and cons of different device setups.

If you're using a mobile device, be sure to download the Remind app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) so you can join the video call.

How can I be involved as a parent?

Students are most successful when parents participate actively in Remind Tutoring and partner with coaches. We encourage parents to join the beginning and end of each session to help set goals and regroup on what was covered. After every session, you’ll receive a summary email about your child’s progress. You’re also welcome to communicate directly with the coach via Remind.

How is progress measured?

At the beginning of each recurring session, the coach and your child will assess how your child feels about the goal for that session on a rating scale. At the end of the session, your child will rate how they feel about the goal after working with the coach.

Coaches will also track overall critical learning skills and subject matter knowledge over time. All of these details will be included in your session summary.

Our coaches 

Who can become a coach? 

Remind coaches are experienced certified K-12 classroom teachers in the US. Like your child’s teachers, coaches know the material inside and out—and what’s important to focus on each session.

What do we look for in a coach? 

Our coaches are selected through a thorough interview and screening process, which includes vetting their ability to tailor instruction for different needs. We look for coaches with strong communication skills who know how to build a student’s confidence. Our coaches will meet your student where they are, regardless of skill. We also recognize that some students have more trouble focusing in online environments. Accordingly, we select coaches who are highly engaging, organized, and versed in online instructional tools.

Can I choose which coach to work with? Will we get the same coach each time? 

Based on your child’s needs, Remind will recommend a coach with the right experience for your first session. If you like your coach from the first session, you can choose to continue working with them—we find that students are most successful when they work with the same coach over time and build a trusting relationship. 

If your coach wasn’t a great fit, we can recommend a different coach for future sessions based on your feedback. You always have the option to change coaches at any point by contacting us here.

What is included in your background check?

Remind’s background check includes checks across local, county, federal, and global databases, as well as a sex offender search.

What is the availability for Remind Tutoring sessions? 

Remind Tutoring is available:

  • Monday- Friday: 12pm-8pm (Tech Support hrs: 11am-8pm)
  • Saturday-Sunday: 7am-6pm (Tech Support hrs: 6:30am-5:30pm)

How long and frequent are sessions?

Remind Tutoring sessions are 40 minutes each, with the option of extending to 60 minutes. Our 40-minute sessions are $40/session and our 60-minute sessions are $60/session. You can contact us to extend a scheduled session before it starts, or tell us when scheduling new sessions.

If you’re getting started with Remind Tutoring, you will be automatically enrolled in weekly sessions and your first session is free! After your first session, you will be contacted via email by one of our Customer Care managers and they can help you make any adjustments to your session date, frequency or time if you would like to customize your sessions. How do I schedule sessions?

When you sign up for your first session, you will be auto enrolled for weekly tutoring sessions at the same date and time requested. 

To schedule subsequent sessions, or make adjustments to your plan please visit our help center to contact our customer care team. 

When can I schedule future sessions?

You can schedule sessions up to one day in advance. Please note that if you schedule a session within 24 hours of the start time and decide to cancel, you will be charged for the full amount.

How do I cancel or skip a session?

If you need to cancel, you can cancel through your Remind Tutoring Dashboard at least 24 business hours before the scheduled start time. You’ll receive a confirmation within 4 business hours. For more information on how to cancel or adjust your session,  review our article here

If you cancel a session within 24 business hours of its scheduled start time, you’ll be charged for the full amount. Out of fairness to our coaches and their schedules, coaches are compensated for sessions canceled on short notice.

Subscription & Billing

Is the first session really free? 

Yes, the session is free. Your free trial session with a Remind coach will be a full 40-minute video session with interactive whiteboarding—just like a regular paid session—so you can feel confident continuing your Remind Tutoring plan.

Why do you require a payment method for a free session?

We ask for a payment method to verify your identity, serve as parental consent, and validate payment details for your weekly tutoring sessions after the trial session. Your card will only be charged for additional sessions after your free trial session.

How much is a session?

Your first Remind Tutoring session is free. After that, pricing is $40 for a 40-minute session or $60 for a 60-minute session.

What plans or scheduling options do you offer? 

After you try out your free session, you will be enrolled automatically for sessions at the same time and day for 40 minutes. If you would like to make any adjustments to your schedule, such as increasing your time to 60 minutes, please let us know! Pricing is $40 for a 40-minute session or $60 for a 60-minute session. 

You can continue with the plan that works for you (priced per session):

  • Weekly plan: One 40-minute or 60-minute session per week.
  • Custom plan: Choose 40-minute or 60-minute sessions and schedule as needed, whether in advance or on demand. 

Most parents choose the Weekly plan so their child can work with the same coach every week to build on progress over time. The Weekly plan is flexible, so you can skip or add sessions for a given week or cancel at any time.

Can I do longer than 40 minutes?

Yes, you can extend any session to 60 minutes prior to its start time. A 60-minute session is $60.

How will I be billed? 

If you like your free session, you are already enrolled for weekly sessions at the same time and day of the week. If you would like to make any adjustments to your plan, like a cancellation, coach change or reschedule you can do so at any time. Your credit card will only be charged at the end of the session, or for any late cancellations requested within 24 business hours of the session.
