Remind has found that students have the greatest success with tutoring when they and their tutors are aligned on expectations and goals. As such, Remind facilitates the connection between a student and their tutor, and encourages students to share as much information prior the the session as possible.
Prepare to meet with your tutor
When a student is matched with a tutor, they will be connected through their Remind Message Threads. The following message is sent to begin the conversation:
Students and parents are encouraged to respond to these questions to the best of their knowledge. This information is sent to the tutor directly, and the tutor may ask follow-up questions in the thread prior to the first session. Students are also able to share examples of the work which which they are struggling to help the tutor develop a tutoring plan to best meet the student's needs.
For the first session, parents or guardians are encouraged to join for 5-15 minutes at the start of the session to meet with the tutor, align on the tutoring plan, and address any connection challenges if they occur.
Prepare your environment for tutoring
- While Remind Tutoring is a virtual tutoring service, tutoring tends to be most successful when held in a dedicated environment that is most conducive to your student's learning needs. For most students this may be a relatively quiet area free from outside distractions. Some students may benefit from having textbooks readily available, others may need more desk space for notes. For some students, this environment may include space to get up and walk around while discussing theories or individual problems. Students are encouraged to set up their environment in a manner that is most beneficial to their specific needs.
- Ensure your internet connection is stable and your student's phone is on do not disturb mode for the tutoring session.
- Set up your tutoring devices. Remind Tutoring recommends using two devices. For more information: click here
