How do I provision accounts and roster via CSV import?

One of the most effective ways to provision user accounts and roster classes for your organization is by importing CSVs of contact and enrollment information to Remind. After the import, administrators have the option to send participants an auto-generated message from Remind to welcome them to the platform.

Please follow the instructions below to help you prepare the CSV spreadsheets required for the import. Once your files are ready, please reach out to the Remind Implementation team and they will follow up with next steps around how to submit your CSV files for processing.  

After the initial CSV import, the Remind Implementation team can process quarterly or semesterly CSV imports to create new contacts and classes for your school.

You will need 4 separate spreadsheets:

  1. Teachers CSV 
    required to provision teacher accounts
  2. Students and guardians CSV
    required to provision student and guardian accounts
  3. Classes CSV
    required to create classes for teachers
  4. Enrollments CSV
    required to enroll students and parents in classes

Important Notes on Formatting:

  • Columns in Bold are required fields.
  • Columns that are IDs (student, teacher and class ID) can include any combination of characters and numbers.
  • Phone numbers can be almost any format: with/without brackets around the area code, with/without hyphens, with/without international code.
  • For each contact point (email/mobile number), Remind creates one account

Important Notes on Formatting:

  • Guardian information is not required to create student accounts on Remind. However, student information is required to create guardian accounts.
  • At least one contact point (email or mobile number) are required to create guardian accounts on Remind. 
  • To connect multiple guardians to a student, repeat the student information for each guardian in a new row.  

Step 3: Add Classes

This spreadsheet automatically provisions empty classes for teachers.

Important Notes on Formatting:

  • You can add multiple class co-owners to each class, but there must be a separate row for each owner.
  • Users cannot be a class owner for more than 100 classes at a time.

Step Four: Add Enrollments

This spreadsheet matches the existing student and guardian accounts to classes that have already been created. Teachers are now ready to start activating.
