How to connect your SIS to Remind (Clever Integration)

Clever Integration with Remind

Remind works with Clever to help administrators import their contacts to Remind directly from your School Information System. When importing contacts through Clever, Remind automatically creates accounts for all of your community's contacts. To integrate through Clever you need to work with your district tech coordinator.

What is Clever

Clever is a free integration layer that allows districts to use their SIS (School Information System) with Remind. Remind uses that information to understand what accounts we need to provision and what accounts already exist. This way, we're able to ensure that you are able to reach 100% of your students and guardians. This also allows us to automatically create classes for teachers and fill those classes according to your rosters. Both of these are unique to Remind's School & District Plan. You can find out more on how Clever syncs student contact information here

Clever is used by 90 of the 100 biggest districts in the United States and complies with all local, state, and federal laws, including FERPA. Read more about how Clever (https://clever.com/about/security) and Remind (https://www.remind.com/trust-safetyprotects) handle student privacy and information.

Getting Started

Step 1 - Create an account

Before you're able to access Remind via Clever, you'll need to create a free Clever account. You can sign up via this link here

Step 2 -Review your SIS sharing rules

Review the rules you have set up in your SIS regarding the data you are sharing with Clever. If necessary, contact Clever to adjust your sync settings. Once contacts are imported into Clever, Clever does not distinguish between all contact types. Everything imported into Clever will be passed to Remind for rostering. Because safety is important to Remind, we encourage you to ensure that Clever does not receive and pass through contact info to Remind for people who should not be able to message certain students.

Step 3 - Merge your SIS

Next, choose the way in which you want to send data to Clever. There are two ways to do this.

  1. Automatic Syncing (https://support.clever.com/hc/en-us/articles/202042973-Auto-Sync-Overview). We highly suggest choosing this method as it will allow you to keep Remind up to date with your SIS.
  2. SFTP Syncing (https://support.clever.com/hc/en-us/articles/205783078-What-is-the-SFTP-sync-process-)

When preparing your data, there are several fields and tables that are required by Clever. Additionally there are fields that are required by Remind.

Step 4 - Connect to Remind

After your information is synced, you can find Remind in Clever's App Gallery (https://clever.com/schools/partners)  and request access. Once approved, we'll be able to move forward

What Comes Next

After your District has been approved by the Remind Team and a data share is in place, we'll review the data for accuracy. Please note if there are any data discrepancies this may delay rollout.

If all the necessary data is being passed over, we will be able to process the first sync which will create accounts for new users without existing accounts. Teachers, students, and guardians already on Remind will not lose any existing information, but will be added to their new classes for the year. After the sync, a welcome email will go out from Remind to the new accounts to let them know that they need to claim their accounts to get started.
